Hard-earned and full of enjoyment
In the tradition-rich Danube Valley between Melk and Krems, we craft authentic, vintage-specific wines — including Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Muskateller, and Weißburgunder — known for their elegant, finely fruity complexity. As a member of “Vinea Wachau,” the Frischengruber winery guarantees the origin and the limited availability of its wines, which are made exclusively from regionally grown grapes.
Grüner Veltliner
The Key Protagonist in Our Winery
Grüner Veltliner, Austria’s most important white grape variety, originated from a crossing of Traminer with another variety linked to a historic vine discovered in St. Georgen. In Austria, it is typically vinified within the Wachau classification system: Steinfeder, Federspiel, and Smaragd.
Riesling
The King of White Wines
Riesling, originally derived from wild vines along the Rhine and first mentioned in 1435, is considered the noblest white wine. Today, along with Grüner Veltliner, forms the leading variety of the Wachau. This demanding, late-ripening variety thrives particularly well in the favoured locations of this region.

Alternatives to Grüner Veltliner and Riesling.
In addition to our Grüner Veltliner and Riesling, we offer two special niche varieties: Gelber Muskateller – a refreshingly light summer wine – and Weißburgunder, which delights with its fullness and opulence. To top it off, our sparkling wine “Sommerregen” is effervescent and perfect for warm evenings.
