Grüner Veltliner

Our playground - a rare niche product

A wine we only vinify in the best years – a true rarity. The grapes come from various vineyards, are harvested together and spontaneously fermented in 500-liter wooden barrels. The result: a powerful wine with impressive pressure, harmoniously underlaid with fine wood aromas. Unlike our other wines, it is allowed to mature longer in the cellar – usually 1.5 years – before being bottled in May of the following year. A wine full of character for special moments.

Terroir Ried Steiger

Where Proximity to the Danube Meets Deep Soils.

The area known as ‘Steiger’ extends from Rossatzbach to the town of Rossatz, situated close to the Danube. Despite this proximity to the Danube, geologically, the location is considered a slope foot position. Deep soils formed by erosion material provide ideal conditions for wines that are both delicately fruity and full-bodied and powerful (‘Smaragde’).

Deep Roots, Strong Character

Soils That Shape Wines with Finesse and Power.

The Ried Steiger, gently sloping towards the Danube, is exemplary of a slope foot location. Meters-thick colluvial deposits of paragneiss ensure balanced water supply even during dry and hot summer periods. The humus-rich topsoil additionally improves water absorption and storage capacity, providing the vines with all essential nutrients. A slight limestone content in the soil also indicates the geological complexity of the site.
