Grüner Veltliner Federspiel

Ried Frauenweingärten – Characterful and Spicy

The Frauenweingärten vineyard impresses with a balanced mix of young vines and stocks up to 45 years old. This combination lends the wine depth and complexity. The deep loess soil produces a Federspiel that convinces with spicy aromatics and characterful structure – harmoniously underlined by a refreshing acidity. This wine is 100% spontaneously fermented to authentically reflect its origin. Bottling takes place in March when it has reached its full expressiveness.

Terroir Ried Frauenweingärten

Where nutrient-rich soil meets elegance.

The vineyards that extend along the slope between Rossatzbach and Rossatz are referred to as ‘Frauenweingärten’ (Women’s Vineyards). The nutrient-rich soil here provides optimal conditions for expressive wines, primarily of the Grüner Veltliner grape variety.

Shaped by Loess – A Soil with Depth

Ice Age layers give the wines their character.

The gently sloping Ried Frauenweingärten consists predominantly of meter-thick, Ice Age loess. On the upper slope, material from the nearby Dunkelsteiner Forest, particularly paragneiss and migmatite-amphibolite, mixes in to varying extents. This causes a loosening of the soil structure and reduces the lime content, which in turn gives the wines a particularly balanced character.
