RiedLoibenberg
Riesling Smaragd
Our Favorite from the Other Side of the Danube
The Loibenberg is large and mighty – and our Riesling showcases all the power of this impressive site. The grapes come from high-elevation terraces that are cooler and more barren, giving the wine a special freshness. Despite its moderate alcohol content, this Riesling demonstrates impressive intensity and distinctiveness. After several hours of maceration, the wine is fermented cool in stainless steel tanks. It matures on the fine lees until bottling in September, which lends it additional complexity and finesse.
Terroir Ried Loibenberg
Historically and Geologically Diverse
As the name suggests, this is the Loibenberg that characterizes the townscape. The large area and significant differences in elevation lead to a total of four official sub-vineyards as well as a variety of smaller differences that are elaborated by local winemakers. Geologically, Gföhl gneiss sets the tone here, although there are some sections where loess islands have formed, which further emphasizes the diversity. Historically, the location can be traced back to the year 1381, then still under the name ‘leub_n perig’.
